It was my birthday over the weekend, and I got myself a good amount of birthday money. I went out and got myself a lot of awesome gaming stuff. There’s some boring things that I needed like new jeans and shirts, but let’s talk about the good stuff!
Early in the morning, I went to my local carboot sale and found a Russian man selling a whole bunch of games including a Sega Saturn Virtua Gun. It was a bummer that House of the Dead wasn’t included with the gun, but I bought 10 games from the seller for £50. Typically I don’t spend more than £30 at a carboot sale, but I did get a WiiU Game, Nintendo Land, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles on Wii, and Harvest Moon Magical Melody all boxed, complete and in great condition. The only unboxed games I got from the seller was Street Fighter 2 Turbo and FlashBack on the SNES. Even if I spent £50 on all this, it was originally going to be £65! But the seller was quite a pushover and haggled it down to £50; £15 off for all that isn’t bad at all! Continue reading →
In a few hours. Nintendo will hold their “Digital Event”, a live stream from Nintendo of America, rather than an actual E3 Press conference. Which to be honest is a smart idea considering that in the last few years the number of people attending E3 has slowly dropped. not to mention the large amount of people (like myself) watching these E3 press shows over the internet. Even Ubisoft knew about it when they had the Rabbids to remind you to keep you bandwidth optimal!
So let me make a list of what I would “like” to hear from Nintendo today.
Is Mario Maker real?
Will you be showing of the “Real” Zelda sequel, or just Zelda Dynasty Warriors?
What other key franchises will appear on Wii U? (F Zero, Metroid, Kirby, Excite Bike)
What’s Nintendo’s strategy on keeping the Wii U relevant?
Will Nondescript action figure ever get a game of his own? (LOLS)
Who are the last few characters to be seen in the Smash Bros for WiiU/3DS ?
What will Reggie Fils Amech do next!?
The Live Blog will begin at 9:00 AM PDT, 5:00 PM BST below when the digital event starts. Continue reading →
So yeah, I had some fun today at the local car boot sale!
The crazy thing was that I almost didn’t go because I felt really rough thing morning, I’m not a morning person, let’s put it like that. It started off kinda bland, there just wasn’t really anything there on my first round around the car boot sale. But when I did my second round, it was as there was a tsunami of deals heading towards me!!! Continue reading →
Nintendo this morning announced the last few details about Mario Kart 8 before releasing it on the 30th of May in Europe and the US. Along with showing off some cool new weapons such as the Crazy Eight, where your kart is surrounded with 1 of each of the basic items in the game; they explain more about gameplay mechanics such as bumping into other vehicles in anti-grav mode gives you a boost. But there’s something a little cooler than that! Continue reading →
Aidy from the British IBM and I hosted a Retro Gaming Party at the Centre of Computing History on the 21st of February. At the party I hosted a PacMan Vs. Tournament. PacMan Vs. is a multiplayer PacMan game made for the GameCube that uses the GameBoy Advance-to-Game Cube cable. There is one PacMan and three ghosts. The players playing as ghosts play on a TV screen, whilst the PacMan player would play on a GameBoy Advance. But I came up with a better way to play this game. A Wii, a GameCube, a GameBoy Player, a Projector and a TV!
There’s my PacMan Vs. Set up attached to a projector, with a TV screen facing the other way. Crazy Horse Gaming gets it a little wrong, the GameCube is using a GameBoy Player and is acting as the GameBoy with PacMan, whilst a Wii is acting as the GameCube playing the game with the ghosts.
Since people saw this set up in photos and videos, people wanted to know how I did this. Let me show you how. Continue reading →
So yeah, I’ve said quite a few times that the Wii U for me is both expensive and Lacking in games. However, today I received an email from GAME, a company for whom I have an odd Love-Hate relationship with, leaning more towards hate, but this time they’ve shown this off. A Wii U pack that comes with New Super Mario Bros U, Super Luigi U, and Wii Sports Club all for £219.99. Considering that the typical price for the New Super Mario Bros U pack alone costs £249.99, including Wii Sports Club in there, and take off £30 off the £249 price tag. That’s a lot of gaming for £219! Now let’s put a game that I want, Pikmin 3, on top of that and it puts the total price up to £251.99. So that’s the Wii U Console, three games, one expansion pack for the same price as the New Super Mario Bros U Wii U pack. I think that’s a deal! Add £7 after that for downloading EarthBound, and Bob’s your Uncle, you have a decent Wii U pack for £40 less compared to last years price with only one game!
For those interested, this offer is only available online (Hence why I highlighted the “Price may differ in store” note) and is only available at this price for the next 6 days. So if you want more bang for your buck for the Wii U, you might want to have a look into this!
When I first saw the WiiU at last year’s E3, I was a little confused about the choice of releasing Nintendo Land over something more successful like the original Wii’s Wii Sports. I honestly believed that a “Wii Sports HD” was in the works for Nintendo’s next machine. But of course, Nintendo needed a game to show off what the GamePad can do, and as it’s not really a motion controller; well it is, but not in one hand, a sports game wasn’t going to cut it. I’ve been on the Twitter-verse today talking to some gaming peeps when I came across @RetroHunter asking for what TurboGrafx 16 games to get. I ended up telling him that I know some great games because I got them from the Wii Virtual Console. Until I got this reply…
@greatbitblog I know, until recently I was caught in an Xbox coma. I’ve never even used the virtual console. Shhhh, don’t tell anyone!
