Happy Birthday PlayStation 2 (In Japan that is)

playstation2logo

Fifteen years ago today, PlayStation 2 was released in Japan. So happy Birthday PS2! Maybe you’re a retro console now? Personally I don’t want to call the PS2 a retro console just yet, but it is 15 years old, so it kind of is to be honest!

Let me tell you the PlayStation 2 games that I really enjoyed…

Shadow-of-the-Colossus

First up there’s Shadow of the Colossus. This game really pushed the PlayStation Hardware to it’s limit, even slowing the system down to achieve it’s scope and epic-ness. You play as a young warrior called Wanda, who enters a forbidden land to revive his recently deceased lover and is told that if he slays each of the fifteen Colossi roaming the land, his lover will come back to life. You take on each Colossi by climbing onto them that makes the game feel a bit like a 3D Prince Persia, what I mean by that is the original game, not sands of time; locate a weak spot and stab it multiple times. This is a game that every PS2 owner should own, and if you don’t there’s even a PS3 remake along side with Ico that plays the game with PS3 hardware, so there’s no slow down like it’s PS2 version. I want to play this game: Rising Zan, The Samurai Gunman

Rising_Zan_Pal

Mr Random Dave showed me this crazy overlooked PlayStation action game called, Rising Zan The Samurai Gunman; and my word, I seriously need to try this game out!

After finding the intro of the game on YouTube, I really wanted to play this game so much! A Wild-west gunman who travels to Japan to become a Samurai and returns to save his town is a great plot, but what makes this better is how silly, over the top and how it never takes itself seriously, ever! Come on Sony, bring the PSTV Value pack over here!

PSVitaTV

I’ll admit it. I kinda want a Playstation TV. Games such as TXK, Freedom Wars and a bunch of great looking indie games the system is fairly attractive to me. However my gripe with the system is simply that once you buy the system, you still have to buy one of those damn Vita memory cards!

vitamemory

Now granted, the PlayStation TV does feature a one gigabyte internal memory to it; which the PlayStation Vita didn’t. But it bugs me to no end that if I get myself a PSTV, I would have to fork out a lot of money on these Vita memory cards, otherwise I’m stuck with a teeny tiny 1GB of memory!

Another, really again? Virtual Reality headset…

really

Whilst searching Twitter, I discovered an article on Kill Screen named, 3DHead is the gloriously inevitable clusterf*ck of our dreams. This was what I greeted to…

My first experience with the PlayStation.

ps1

So it’s the 20th Anniversary of the PlayStation, or as most people would now call it, the PS1. Maybe I should write a blog about the first experience I had with the system.

Front of school

In 1995, I went to a fete at the Mayfield Primary School. I can’t remember the reason why, it wasn’t the school that I was attending, that and I was about to go to Secondary School after the Summer break. Three things went down at this fete, I won about £10 at a putting game they had, I tried the internet out for the first time on an Acorn computer using a huge track ball, and I tried out a PlayStation. I don’t have any photos of this event, or me playing said system, so I’m just going to have to write down everything that I remember. Continue reading

Happy Birthday PlayStation

PlayStation(1)

I’ll admit, I’m not the biggest fan of Sony, nor am I huge fan of the PlayStation. But I will admit the fact that the PlayStation had a pretty impressive library of games for it. Since the release PlayStation 4, I’ve seen a lot of vinyl sticker packs to dress up your PS4 to make it look like an Atari 2600 or an NES; but I thought to myself “Why hasn’t they made a PS1 skin for the PS4 yet?” Well, the 20th anniversary of the PlayStation comes along, and now there’s a super limited edition version of the PS4 console donning the classic grey colour… Continue reading

Here’s some Bloodborne gameplay. Yes it’s a sequel to Darksouls!

E3 may have only shown us an FMV cut-scene of what to expect. But videos were leaked on the internet from a demonstration of the game shown back in February with it’s Project Beast name.

Videos  got leaked onto YouTube, and since then got removed as a cease and desist. But that didn’t stop the internet from into them into gifs! Hooray for the Internet! Continue reading

Post E3 2014 Analysis.

e3_logo

OK, I’ve had my bit of fun watching all the E3 conferences and shows. It’s not time to get to work and talk about the good and bad things about this year’s show.

Microsoft

Microsoft’s show was better this year compared to last year, it was fortunate that it wasn’t all to do with Sports and TV! Typically Microsoft and the XBox being the “First Person Shooter” console, they had to show off the next Call of Duty game, Advanced Warfare, pretty much like Modern Warfare, but now more sci-fi with more drones and flashy lights on body armour. As you might tell I don’t give a damn about the COD series, and personally I wish that Activision would concentrate on something else for a change!

After seeing Forza Horizon 2 and Witcher 3, I saw a game that I kinda knew about through from fake marketing of an energy drink called Overdrive. The game is called “Sunset Overdrive”, and the video starts off being a joke to other FPS games having to take cover behind things and having a character, who’s a bit doucheir than your typical douche-bag, destroy the enemy that trying to attack said “Call of Duty”-like soldier before doucey-Mc-DouceMeister explains his game, and looking at the gameplay it looks really cool. Imagine a third person contra game, but being able to do Sonic the Hedgehog like tricks such as grind rails and run up walls, then mix it up with Left 4 Dead style Co-op where you take out mutants who are simply people who have been drinking the Overdrive energy drink. It’s nice to see some colour in an XBox game! It’s just a shame that this is an XBox One exclusive title. Continue reading

E3 Live Blog part 2!

e3_logo

Okie doke. To keep thing chronological, and the E3 Live Blog on the top of blog. I’m making a “Part 2” so that I don’t have to do any weird moving these around with the blog article about getting into the BattleField Hardline Beta.

Moving along, we have two more conferences left today. Ubisoft’s and Sony’s!

Hopefully Ubisoft won’t have any douchey hosts, and Sony will give me a better reason to own a PS4 other than FinalFantasy XV.

Live Blog will begin at 11:00PM BST (3:00M PDT) below… (Sorry I got the times wrong, they’re now corrected)

E3 Live Blog

e3_logo

In a few hours time, Microsoft will begin the set of press conferences today; followed by EA, Ubisoft, and Sony. Nintendo’s Digital conference will be tomorrow. What will they show off today? Here’s a list of thing I want to hear from each conference, though personal I doubt it’ll happen! lol 😛

Microsoft

  • Free XBox Live, or at least a cheaper service for casual online players.
  • More variety of genre’s than just FPS games.
  • A smaller and cheaper XBOne!
  • The next Call of Duty game is based on World War 1.

EA

  • Actually admit that Origin was a terrible idea. OK a little harsh, but come on, everyone uses Steam and GOG these days!
  • Announce a new James Pond game, I’m waiting guys…
  • Create a Fifa or Madden game that is based on an annual subscription so that a new version of the same game isn’t released each year!

Ubisoft

  • What does the next gen Ray Man look like?
  • Admit that Uplay was a terrible idea and why it’s screwing up Watch_Dogs on the PC.
  • Please have a guest that doesn’t douche up the conference!

Sony

  • Final Fantasy XV Gameplay.
  • Demon’s Souls II announcement.
  • WHERE’S LAST GUARDIAN!!!???  *Hulk Rage*
  • Backward compatibility of some kind on the PS4?

Anyway, that’s my wishful for E3, the live blog will begin below at 9am Pacific standard time.
