Let’s Colonize Mars! Here’s Sol 0

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to colonize Mars? In the early beta game Sol 0 you have the opportunity to set foot on Martian soil and build your own colony. Prepare your rocket ship with some needed supplies and then launch yourself to the red planet. Sol 0 is a game made by one man under the banner of Chondrite Games. It’s in the early beta stage of development and has recently been put up for voting on Steam’s Green Light service.

The game first of all looks absolutely amazing. The graphics look crisp and the animations are well done. The soundtrack is a collection of free songs available on the internet thanks to the great Incompetech aka Kevin MacLeod. I have always enjoyed his music and the creator of this game has chosen tracks that fit this game perfectly. The game is so expertly done that it’s difficult to believe it was created by a one man team.

Whatcha playing Ian? (Part 1)

OK OK, I know I’ve been blogging a bit too much about Nintendo recently. So let me talk about what games I’ve been hooked on to. Because if you’ve ever spoke to me in the last six months, I haven’t touched a console in ages… OK I have played some Ouya, but I’m talking about the mainstream stuff here. My Wii, 360 and PS3 are covered in my dust as my PC is currently my platform of choice for gaming at the moment, and possibly the future too as the next generation consoles don’t really appeal to me Continue reading

Duck Tales, DRM Fails and Bioshock Infinite!

Okie doke, I’m getting REALLY rusty on this blogging stuff! Thinking I can do this on a daily basis and only write stuff out on a weekly basis, LMAO! So here’s a round up…

Duck Tails! Whoo hoo!

So yeah, PAX East happened, and there wasn’t a lot happening until a lot of us got a huge nostalgia boner for this!
“Life is like a hurricane, here in, Duckburg…”

I mean seriously, when do you get hype like this for a downloadable only game when it succeeds upcoming Triple A titles! What made this even better was hearing Peter Monlineux whine his little narcissistic face about how this game is getting more press than whatever the hell he’s doing…
Now I originally played this on the GameBoy, but when I got my NES version later on I was surprised with how close the two games are. The GameBoy version has it’s levels shorten down, but the sprites, animation and music are almost dead on to the NES game. But yes, out of the many Disney games that deserve a remake it’s DuckTails. I could say the MegaDrive version of Aladin too, but I highly doubt that’s going to happen any day soon…
Looking at the videos and the livestreams they had at PAX East, it looks like a very good and faithful remake of the NES game. However they’ve made the bosses tougher as they were a little on the easy side on the original NES game.

DRM Fails

Yup, the Games Industry is slowly admitting that DRM is messing up the customer base for games. You don’t say? lol!

“DRM is a failed dead-end strategy”–EA president F.Gibeau. j.mp/EAonDRM Nice! Another one sharing @gogcom‘s views. 😉

DRM is “a failed dead-end strategy” says EA’s Frank Gibeau. What tipped him off? pcgamer.com/2013/03/28/gdc…

It’s a shame that it was SimCity(2013) that has caused this. I do like the game, and I haven’t had too many issues with the servers, though it would be nice to easily find a damn multiplayer game that isn’t totally filled, or start a multiplayer game where people join it :/ Still, it’s good to hear from the games industry that they’re admitting that DRM might not be a good idea…

Bioshock Infinite

Oh yes, the lovely Focus from the podcast that I co-host, Stalking the Retro, gave me a preorder for this game for Christmas. Well it came out, and it’s pretty damn good. It’s not perfect mind you, I’ll write up a review as soon as I beat the game, and I’ll tell you what’s not so hot about the game. But regardless of “some negativity”, it’s a pretty damn fun game, possibly the best so called “Triple A Title” I’ve played in for a while.
In the mean while, enjoy some pictures I took in-game…

So yes, lot’s of racism is the game! Kinda creepy to be honest, but this is a portrayal of America in the late 19th century to early 20th century. So racism and right wing religion ensues…

Whine, whine, bitch-bitch, whine. (part trois)

Turns out that IGN’s Code generator was messing up! Now I got my code! Thanks IGN! Here’s a Picture with another Meme in it, lol!

Now I might not be blogging for a week or two 😛 LOL! OK OK I’m joking, I’ll do my best to blog even with this distraction!

Whine, whine, bitch-bitch, whine. (part deux)

Reminder: We’re sending out #SimCity beta codes in batches throughout the day today and into the weekend. Keep checking your e-mails.

Hopefully I’ll be getting my damn Beta code through Origin…  Though I will have to remember that it’s still a closed Beta! I might not get in, but at least there’s some hope!

Whine, whine, bitch-bitch, whine.

OK, I do apologise for the lack of blog yesterday, but I’m putting this down as I’m quite annoyed about something
So… I got home early today, in fact I go home early once a week due to the fact I have to work an extra half hour each day and my job doesn’t want to pay for it, so they’re happy to let me go home a little early. When I got home I found this email on my phone!
Oh yeah! New Sim City here I come!
So I got on my PC, went to my IGN account, went to grab the Sim City Beta access code to find this…
Let’s say I was terribly chuffed with this… I mean OK, it’s a closed Beta and all. But when you see this when the email was only sent to me 15 minutes before I tried to grab the code, wither IGN did something wrong, or a billion people tried to grab codes.
I’m annoyed, because I would love to actually try out this game as I love the SimCity franchise. But I began to read into more of the Beta code stuff, and I realised it may have not been my fault after all. Reading some of the small print, the idea is that you apply for the code, and you have to wait until 9:00 AM Pacific Standard Time, West coast American time to us Brits. Pacific Standard Time, or PST, is 8 hours behind GMT (Greenwich Mean Time to you yanks out there), but here’s something I noticed…
They sent the email to me at 5:02 PM. Take 8 hours away from that, and it’s 9:02 AM. Meaning that they sent this email 2 minutes after SENDING OUT THE FINAL CODES OUT TO PEOPLE! D:< *RAGE*
How can they send emails out like this so damn late! If I had it sent sooner I might have had a chance. Plus I had no idea that IGN were handing out beta access codes for the New SimCity, I honestly thought only Origin were doing that. But of course…  my email gets sloppily sent bloody late and now I can’t play the New SimCity!
Good thing I cancelled my next IGN Prime subscription anyway…  Screw you guys!
First world issues yo…
