Brazil is known to have some of the biggest Sega fan boys out there in the world. Mainly due to the fact that in Brazil, things typically would have to manufactured inside the country, or else there would be some serious fees for trying to buy stuff from outside the country. That’s where TecToy came in, and in the late 80s manufactured they manufactured the Sega Master System and the MegaDrive to the Brazilian market. Sega was huge in Brazil, as Nintendo and Atari didn’t manufacture their goods inside Brazil, and seeing that Sega allowed the toy company, Tec Toy, to manufacturer their hardware outside of Japan and China, no one else had a spot in Brazil’s Sega heavy games market. Here’s a Kickstarter that I might support, it’s the new ToeJam & Earl game made Greg Johnson who now works at a new game studio called, Humanature Studios. Sick of the fact that a, real, sequel to the original ToeJam & Earl MegaDrive/Genesis game never came out due to publishers pushing them to change the game, Greg Johnson and Humanature Studios are now working to make a new game for the PC without the pressure for publishers telling them how to make the game; and they’re doing this by getting funding from the fans over on Kickstarter.
The game in it’s early stages look great! It looks like they took some ideas from HotHead’s DeathSpank series. It uses simplistic models and backdrops, in this case two dimensional characters, on top of a three dimensional environment that’s randomly generated, just like the original game!
By the way, Greg Johnson is doing a REALLY bad Scottish accent in this video for the random…
In 1991, I played a MegaDrive for the first time at a friend’s of my Mother’s house. Her teenage son, who’s name I can’t remember, had a MegaDrive with two games, Sonic the Hedgehog, and ToeJam & Earl. In a weird way, these games were sort of like a first experience in drugs, where the first trip so was so bad I wouldn’t want to touch these games for almost a decade.
