After a few teasers that Rockstar put out on Facebook and Twitter, fans got excited for a possible new Red Dead game, and it turned out to be true! Rockstar announced Red Dead Redemption 2 today, with a trailer coming out this Thursday.
What’s been said is that the game isn’t a sequel, but a prequel (Why call it Redemption 2 then?) The game will come out on the PS4 and XBox One in 2017, however a few gaming news sites such as IGN have speculated that there might be a chance to play this game on the PC and base their opinion based on the fact that Grand Theft Auto 5 eventually made it onto the PC a year after it’s console launch. Still doesn’t mean anything due to the fact that Redemption still hasn’t got a PC port yet! Rockstar also mentioned that Redemption 2 will come with an online mode named, Red Dead Online.
An image that appeared on NeoGAF shows that the game will set north east from the map in Redemption 1. The new map actually shows Great Plains and Tall trees at the south west of this new map, meaning that you can actually fit the old map onto this like so…
This makes sense if the game is a prequel, as the citizens of Great Plains know a lot about you. If this game really is a prequel, there’s a chance you’ll go back to Fort Mercer and where Redemption 1 started.
A few rumours have been appearing on websites such as the ability to play Redemption 2 in a first person perspective. This might have something to do with Grand Theft Auto 5’s FPS mode that was featured in the Xbox One, PS4, and PC versions of the game. It’s led people to believe that Redemption 2 will use a very similar games engine that GTAV used. Though we won’t know for certain until the trailer come out this Thursday.
So what do I think of this? Personally, I think it’s great to see another Red Dead game; but my gripe is that it’s called Red Dead Redemption 2. For those who might not know, there was a Red Dead game before Redemption 1. It was Red Dead Revolver on the PS2 and XBox. When I head that there was a new Red Dead on the horizon, I was guessing names to what the next Red Dead was going to be. Seeing as Revolver, and Redemption, both begin with “Re”, I had a hunch that it could be called, Red Dead Revelations. I had this cool idea in my head that there’s a bovine herding cowboy, who so happens to be Satan in the flesh, and you investigate a bunch of paranormal activities that end up leading you towards the devil himself. But it turns out that the next game will simply be a safe one, and tell the story of John and his gang before the events of Red Dead Redemption 1. I really hate the names of sequels and prequels, was it so hard to call this, Red Dead Reflections?
…I don’t know, maybe I should see if there’s a job at Rockstar to come up with names…
